Mizoram police have arrested a total of 71 people, including 15 foreigners, in connection with alleged drug smuggling cases since September 1, officials said on Tuesday. The arrests come as part of a larger operation aimed at curbing the growing menace of drug trafficking in the state.
Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) H Ramthlengliana said the arrests were made under a sustained drive to prevent the smuggling and distribution of illegal drugs across Mizoram. “We have been keeping a close watch on suspicious activities related to drug smuggling, and the operation will continue until December,” he said.
The crackdown has been carried out jointly by the Mizoram Police, the Excise and Narcotics Department, and the Young Mizo Association (YMA), reflecting a coordinated effort between law enforcement agencies and local community organizations. According to officials, the operation involves monitoring key entry points, conducting raids, and gathering intelligence to identify and apprehend suspects.
