A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Guwahati Branch, in coordination with the Tripura Police, conducted extensive raids across Unakoti district in the early hours of Wednesday in connection with a 2023 case related to a fake document racket.

According to official sources, the operation was carried out simultaneously at several locations under Kailashahar and Kumarghat police stations. The raids targeted two individuals identified as Paritosh Shil (45), a resident under Kailashahar Police Station, and Ranu Pal (42), a resident under Kumarghat Police Station.

Preliminary findings suggest that both suspects were allegedly involved in the preparation and circulation of forged documents, including fake identity proofs and certificates. “Initial investigation points to their role in fabricating forged documents for illegal purposes,” an official source confirmed.

The operation was conducted under the close supervision of senior officials from both the NIA and Tripura Police. Investigators also seized several materials believed to be linked to the racket, though officials have not yet disclosed the exact nature of the recovered items.

“No arrests have been made so far. The search and verification process are still underway,” the source added.

The case, originally registered in 2023, has been under investigation for its possible links to a wider interstate network involved in document forgery and identity fraud. The NIA team’s presence in the region indicates that the case has gained significance beyond state borders, prompting deeper scrutiny.
