Veteran actress Sandhya Shantaram passed away at the age of 94, marking the end of an era in Indian cinema. Her last rites were held at Vaikunth Dham, Shivaji Park, attended by family, friends, and admirers. While the exact cause of her death has not been officially confirmed, sources said she was suffering from age-related health issues.
Sandhya Shantaram was widely celebrated for her captivating performances and her ability to bring depth and emotion to every role. She gained prominence in both Hindi and Marathi cinema, earning a special place in the hearts of audiences with her versatile acting and classical dance skills.
She was married to legendary filmmaker V. Shantaram, and the couple shared a strong professional partnership as well. Many of her most acclaimed works were created under his direction. In the Marathi classic ‘Pinjara’, Sandhya’s nuanced performance was praised for conveying complex emotions with subtlety. In Hindi films like ‘Do Aankhen Barah Haath’, she combined her acting with dance, earning critical acclaim for her versatility. 
Sandhya also shone in ‘Navrang’, delivering a memorable performance in the song ‘Are Jaare Hat Natkhat’, and showcased her classical dance skills in ‘Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje’. This film went on to win the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi and four Filmfare Awards, cementing her status as a cultural icon.
