Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced that the post-mortem report of late singer Zubeen Garg has been completed and handed over to his wife, Garima Saikia. He added that the decision to make the report public will rest entirely with the family.

Speaking during a Facebook Live session, Sarma clarified that both the Singapore post-mortem report and the one conducted at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) will be given to Zubeen’s wife. “Yesterday, we handed the Singapore post-mortem report to Zubeen Garg’s wife. The GMCH post-mortem report will also be handed to her tomorrow. It is for Garima to decide if these documents will be made public. Both reports will also go to the court,” Sarma said.

The Chief Minister explained that he had acted swiftly after the singer’s death. “As a fan, within a single day, I arranged for the post-mortem in Singapore and brought his mortal remains to Delhi. From there, the body was flown to Assam, preserved for public viewing, and made available for millions of fans. I did this not as the Chief Minister, but as a devoted fan of Zubeen,” he said.

Meanwhile, the investigation into the circumstances of Garg’s death has entered a crucial stage. Four individuals—event manager Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddharth Sharma, Sekharjyoti Goswami, and Amrit Prabha Mahanta—are currently under police custody. Sarma highlighted that a 14-day remand had been secured, calling it “an exceptional achievement” since such lengthy remands are rarely granted.

The Assam government is also seeking support from the Assamese community in Singapore. Sarma said cooperation was essential for the investigation and warned that strict action would be taken if support was not forthcoming.
