Nearly a month after the sudden and shocking death of Zubeen Garg, Assam’s iconic singer and cultural ambassador, the state government has taken firm steps to investigate the circumstances surrounding his untimely demise. The Assam Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has now begun an on-site investigation in Singapore, where Garg passed away, amid growing public interest and demand for justice.

The post-mortem report and viscera report of Zubeen Garg’s body have not yet been filed in court, adding to public concern and anticipation. Authorities, however, have assured that the investigation is being conducted thoroughly and transparently. Assam Police and the state BJP leadership have emphasized that the focus remains on uncovering the truth rather than engaging in political debates.

Speaking from Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, BJP spokesperson Kishor Kumar Bhattacharya said that Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is personally overseeing the SIT probe. He also condemned any attempts to politicize the incident or exploit the singer’s legacy, assuring the public that the investigation follows strict legal procedures both in India and in coordination with foreign authorities. “In a democratic country like India, the law will take its course. Anyone found guilty will face strict consequences,” Bhattacharya said.

Earlier today, Assam Police held a high-level meeting with senior journalists, intellectuals, and prominent citizens to discuss the progress of the SIT. Actor Pranjal Saikia, present at the meeting, revealed that statements have already been recorded from over 50 individuals, including family members, associates, and witnesses. The SIT plans to file a chargesheet within 90 days. Additionally, three Assamese expatriates from Singapore are expected to provide their statements soon. All coordination with foreign authorities is being handled carefully through legal and diplomatic channels.
