Assam Congress President and Jorhat Member of Parliament Gaurav Gogoi claimed that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has unintentionally become the “star campaigner” for the Congress party. Speaking to reporters, Gogoi said that public dissatisfaction with Sarma’s leadership has created a political opportunity for the opposition.
“Everyone is now outraged at the failure of his leadership. The way he has governed Assam has not met the expectations of the people. If Congress comes to power in Assam, it will largely be due to Himanta Biswa Sarma himself,” Gogoi said.
Gogoi said that Sarma’s actions, or lack thereof, have affected several key groups in Assam. “Women’s organizations, intellectuals, and common people all want a developed Assam. But under Himanta Biswa Sarma, there has been little progress for Assam’s poor, women, or intellectual community. People are unhappy with the government’s work,” he added.
According to Gogoi, Sarma’s inaction has created an environment favorable for Congress ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. “By not working effectively for the people, by not addressing the real issues of Assam, he is helping Congress indirectly. This is how a BJP leader has become the star campaigner for the opposition,” he said.
