The mortal remains of eminent Assamese flutist Dipak Sarma arrived in Guwahati on Tuesday morning from Chennai in a special chartered flight. Sarma passed away in Chennai on Monday morning at the age of 57 while undergoing treatment for a liver ailment.

According to family sources, the flight carrying his body left Chennai at around 5 am and landed in Guwahati shortly after. From the airport, the body was taken to his residence at Ambikagiri Nagar, where family members conducted the initial rituals.

As per the schedule shared by cultural groups, the mortal remains will be kept at Seuj Sangha from 10 am to 2 pm for the public to pay their last respects. Representatives from various cultural organisations, artists, and admirers are expected to visit and offer tribute.

Following the public homage, the funeral procession will move to the Navagraha crematorium, where the final rites will be performed later in the day.

Sarma had been receiving treatment in Guwahati before being shifted to Chennai for advanced care. He was known for his contribution to Assamese music and for promoting the flute across various cultural platforms.
