The 93rd Air Force Day was celebrated today in Guwahati with great pride and excitement, as the skies over the city came alive with a breathtaking air show. The event paid tribute to the courage and dedication of the Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel who guard the nation’s skies with unwavering commitment.

The main celebration took place at Lachit Ghat, where thousands of people gathered to witness the aerial display. Between 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm, the crowd watched in awe as fighter jets and helicopters performed precise and powerful manoeuvres above the Brahmaputra River. More than 75 aircraft, including Rafale, MIG, and Sukhoi jets, participated in the grand event, leaving spectators thrilled and filled with pride.

Adding a special local touch, the air show included a tribute to Assam’s beloved singer Zubeen Garg, who passed away earlier this year. His popular song “Mayabini Ratir Bukut” played in the background as the aircraft soared across the clear blue sky. The gesture moved many in the crowd, combining patriotic spirit with heartfelt emotion.

The celebration was not just limited to officials or defence personnel. Students from various schools and colleges, as well as residents of old-age homes, were specially invited to witness the display. The Air Force authorities also made arrangements for citizens to view the air show safely from the Ashwaklanta Mandir premises. Other good viewing points included Sati Radhika Shaanti Udyan in Uzan Bazar, where many families gathered early in the morning to secure a good spot.

To ensure smooth movement and safety during the event, strict traffic restrictions were enforced across the city. Commercial and heavy vehicles were barred from entering major routes such as HB Road, AT Road, DG Road, MG Road, B Baruah Road, and GNB Road between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. Movement of handcarts and small vehicles was also restricted on MG Road from Machkhowa Point to the Chief Justice’s Bungalow during the event hours.

Only vehicles with special IAF permits were allowed entry into the restricted areas between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm. City buses coming from Khanapara were diverted and not allowed to use the GS Road–AT Road–Athgaon–Panbazar–RBI route, while heavy vehicles from Jalukbari were completely banned from entering the city. The police and traffic personnel were deployed in large numbers to guide vehicles and manage the crowd.
